Influence of ethnicity on different aspects of polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review

This systematic review aimed to assess variations in the clinical presentation and treatment outcomes of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) belonging different ethnicities. A search was performed for studies comparing various aspects PCOS two or more ethnic groups. After screening 2264 studies, 35 articles were included final analysis. In comparison White women (wPCOS), East Asian (eaPCOS) less hirsute, whereas Hispanic (hPCOS), South (saPCOS) Middle Eastern (mePCOS) hirsute. saPCOS had higher androgen lower sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) concentrations, mePCOS DHEAS hPCOS Black (bPCOS) SHBG measures than wPCOS. Menstrual disturbances frequent eaPCOS. Both eaPCOS body mass index increased central adiposity. bPCOS obese. saPCOS, mePCOS, a prevalence insulin resistance better lipid profile but blood pressure cardiovascular risk. Indigenous Australian obese resistant concentrations. The phenotype therefore shows wide variation depending on ethnicity.
